Cornell Watch Company Expands the 1870 CE Line with Blue and Black Enamel Dials and a Bold American Comeback

Cornell Watch Company is back with two new models, the first new variations to the 1870 CE collection, the first new releases since the brand’s extremely limited inaugural launch model. These two new additions, the 1870 CE Blue and 1870 CE Black, showcase Cornell’s serious craftsmanship and timeless, railroad-inspired style.

What really makes these pieces stand out is the grand feu enamel dials, made by Donzé Cadrans — one of the best enamel dial makers in Switzerland. If you're into watch collecting, you know enamel dials are no joke, and making them in dark colors like navy and black is even harder. The process is unforgiving — one tiny flaw, and the whole dial is scrapped. That's why these dials are so rare and special.

Cornell teamed up with Donzé Cadrans, who've been perfecting this craft since the 1970s, to pull off these deep, rich enamel dials. The 1870 CE Blue is a deep navy dial with bright white markers and rhodium-plated hands. While the 1870 CE Black goes for a vintage vibe with a glossy black dial, gold markers, and gold-plated hands — a nod to old-school gilt dials.

Both watches come in the familiar 39mm stainless steel case that fans of the 1870 CE line will recognize. Under the hood is the Schwarz Etienne ASE 200 automatic movement with micro-rotor, packing an impressive 86-hour power reserve. While the movement is Swiss, the watch is assembled here in the USA, offering a blend of Swiss precision with American craftsmanship.

But what really makes this release even more exciting is Cornell's new partnership with Hour Precision. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Hour Precision is setting out to bring large-scale watch production back to the U.S. Bringing mvoement manufacturing back to the US is something Cornell’s CEO John Warren and I discussed in our interview last year. It's a bold move in an industry where most components are made overseas. With their micro-machining and assembly expertise, Hour Precision is helping Cornell take a big step toward reviving American watchmaking — something that's been missing for a long time.

Warren has made it clear that this partnership is about more than just watches — it's about rebuilding the infrastructure and know-how to create high-quality timepieces right here at home. The first watch from this collaboration is set to drop in in the next few months, and if these enamel-dial beauties are any indication, the future looks bright.

With the 1870 CE Blue and Black, Cornell is proving that classic watchmaking is alive and well — blending history, artistry, and top-notch craftsmanship into two seriously beautiful timepieces — all while laying the foundation for a new era of American watch production. The 1870 CE Blue and 1870 CE Black will be produced in limited numbers and retail for $12,950 USD. A small quantity are available for immediate delivery.
